Senior Preparatory School
Grade 4 through to Grade 7
Senior Preparatory School
Our focus, as always, remains on developing each individual pupil, not only mentally, but also physically and emotionally. The Senior Preparatory School curriculum builds on the fundamental concepts taught from Grade R through to Grade 3, with pupils learning new and more involved theories and concepts.
It is owing to this reason, that it is so important that pupils receive and develop a solid understanding of fundamental concepts prior to entering Grade 4, as their transition will be smoother and they’ll be able to adapt more quickly to the increased workload.
The Senior Preparatory School curriculum focuses on the following learning areas:
- English (Home Language)
- Afrikaans (First Additional Language)
- Mathematics
- Natural Science and Technology
- History
- Geography
- Economic Management Sciences
- Creative Arts
- Life Orientation
The Academy places a strong focus on pupils having an in-depth understanding of the actual subject matter and therefore pupils are encouraged to explore and examine the materials, ask questions, share and discuss ideas etc. as opposed to merely memorizing class notes. This practical experience, combined with classroom and textbook teaching, ensures that each pupil has a solid understanding of the various concepts and theories, while making learning interesting and fun.
Computer Centres
The Academy boasts two Computer Centres, one catering for the Foundation Phase and Senior Preparatory School and the other Centre for the Secondary School.
The Foundation Phase and Senior Preparatory School’s Computer Centre is situated above the Media Centre. The Computer Centre is tailored for Grade R through to Grade 7 pupils, with the emphasis on basic computer literacy, keyboard and typing skills as well as an introduction to the various components of the Microsoft Office Suite.
The Centre comprises of:
- 26 fully equipped network stations
- Fast speed internet connectivity
- Mono and colour printers
- Digital projector for instructional purposes
Media Centre (Library)
Our Media Centre provides an oasis of calm and tranquillity, where pupils can enjoy reading a variety of novels, stimulating their imaginations and curiosity. Research has proven time and time again that there are numerous benefits derived from reading, which include increased general knowledge and overall interests in various subjects, improved and better vocabulary and correct use of grammar etc.
Our resident Librarian is always happy to assist pupils and suggest books which will ignite their passion for reading. A weekly highlight for many of our younger pupils is Story Time, where they get to enjoy listening to a story being read to them.
To ensure our Media Centre remains relevant, brand-new books are continuously purchased and added to our already well-stocked library. In addition, once a year, we invite the Travelling Bookshop to visit and showcase their latest publications, which pupils can then purchase at discounted prices.
Sports and Culture
Pupils are encouraged to take part in the various Sporting and Cultural Activities that the Academy offers, adding to the many benefits associated with extra mural activities. Benefits include the physical and health aspects, increased confidence and leadership skills, as well as a healthy understanding of competition and true sportsmanship.
Over the years, our pupils have and continue to achieve numerous awards and accolades in their respective activities, with the Academy taking part in a number of inter-school tournaments. Our pupils excel year-after-year at the Eisteddfods in both English and Afrikaans, receiving a number of Prestige and Gold certificates in the various categories.
Extra-Curricular Activities on offer to pupils in the Senior Preparatory School include:
- Athletics (comprising of both field and track events)
